Anna K. Davie Elementary School Welcomes Wolves with a Hunt and a Slide

ROME, GA— Morning commuters have been seeing more large yellow buses around town because Rome City Schools has welcomed the Wolves back to class for the 2022-2023 school year.

Brant Amerman, principal at Anna K. Davie (AKD) Elementary School, and his team of administrators and educators came up with a creative way to motivate his Pack during their Meet the Teacher event.

“We have put together a scavenger hunt for our students,” said Amerman when explaining the evening's activities. “They have to go meet their teacher, and then they meet Ms. (Velvet) Ferrari in our media center and Ms. (Chanita) McIntosh in our STEM lab. Then they have to head over to our music classroom, and they even have to meet me, their new principal. If they complete the steps, students will get a token for our book vending machine. By using that token, they can get a cool book to take home with them.”

Amerman said Ms. Kay Scherich, fourth grade teacher at AKD, and her family’s donations make the book vending machine possible. He expressed how grateful he was for her contributions to their students.

“Our students can look forward to an inflatable slide in our gym on our first day of classes, so they can slide into the new school year,” AKD’s leader said with a smile so wide it was hard to hide his intentions to have a trip down the ramp himself.“ And I think our parents can look forward to lots of communication from us through social media, or through our PowerSchool text messaging system. I also want all of our community stakeholders to know they are always welcome in our building. Myself and our assistant principal Ms. (Kimmie) Whatley want to build positive relationships with our students and with their families this year, and that will be one of the goals for AKD.”
